MARK WEST REGIONAL PARK & PRESERVE PREVIEW DAYS - CANCELLED

By Sonoma County Parks (other events)

6 Dates Through Dec 14, 2019

ABOUT ABOUT

The Dec. 14 event has been cancelled.
Explore the recently acquired Mark West Creek Regional Park & Preserve during monthly “park preview” days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month beginning July 13, 2019. You’re invited to hike the trails and roads on some of the 1,200 acres making up the parkland.

Mark West Creek Regional Park & Preserve features a rugged, natural terrain that includes a mix of grasslands, chaparral, oaks, Douglas fir, redwoods and riparian areas along Mark West, Porter, and Mill creeks. Sonoma County sought to conserve the area because of its natural resources, significant wildlife habitat, scenic vistas, and its potential for outdoor recreation and education.

The Sonoma County Ag + Open Space purchased the properties making up the preserve over a period of 15 years and transferred the land to Regional Parks in late 2018. Regional Parks is undertaking a three- to five-year master planning process that will culminate in the park being open daily.

In the meantime, Regional Parks will host monthly park preview days to provide initial public access to the land. Visitors are invited to hike on 7 miles of trails. Parks staff and volunteers will be on site to help orient visitors and offer information about the parkland.

The park and preserve is along Porter Creek Road, west of Safari West. Road signs will mark the entrance on park preview days, which are the only days the property is open to the public. Parking is limited, so we asking each person driving to the preview day to RSVP. If you are attending with friends or a group, please carpool.

Bring your own water. Water is not available on site. Dogs on leash are allowed. Bicycles and horses are not permitted at this time.
